Re: Waiakea Uka Park Restroom
Dear Chairman Arakaki:
Thank you for the opportunity to review and provide recommendations on the proposed bill to
amend the capital budget by appropriating $60,000 to construct a restroom at the Waiakea
Uka Park. I understand that community volunteers are prepared to perform the labor to
construct the restrooms and that the County funds will only be used to purchase materials.
This is a worthwhile project and partnering with the community makes our available funds
stretch farther. Unfortunately, because of our very limited resources, we must make difficult
decisions about priorities. There are other projects that have been identified as higher
priorities, such as restrooms for Kamehameha Park in Kohala, where the park is heavily used
and portable toilets are in use.
Again, I thank you for the opportunity to provide comments on your proposal.
