SUBJECT: TRAFFIC CODE AMENDMENT
DELETE SECTION 24-216.01 (FLAT RATE PAYMENT)
We concur with the Finance Director's recommendation to delete the subject section of the County
Traffic Code and all references to a flat rate payment option for parking meter zones.
The wording of this payment option for parking meter zones is questionable and was never implemented
by the Department of Public Works. Ordinance number 00-89, effective August 21, 2000, eliminated
most of the parking meter zones in downtown Hilo. This optional method of paying for parking meter
stalls should be reevaluated if parking meter zones are reestablished in downtown Hilo.
We request the following sections in the Hawaii County Code, Chapter 24, Article 8, Division 4 parking
meters, subdivision 1 meter zones, be amended as described in the attached draft for an ordinance.
We ask for your review and consideration for adoption of the subject amendment. Should you have any
