W~IIsR1=AS, School Crossing Guards ensure the safe and orderly crossing of children and
other pedestrians at crossing locations near assigned schools during the mornings and afternoons
when school is in session; and
W~6~R~AS, the forty (40) School Crossing Guard (dourly) (Temporary) positions [position no.
3301, 3302, 3303, 3304, 3305, 3306, 3307, 3308, 3309, 3310, 3311, 3312, 3313, 3314, 3315, 3316,
3317, 3318, 3319, 3320, 3538, 3550, 3551, 3556, 3557, 3558, 3559, 3560, 3719, 3833, 3847, 3848,
3905, 3907, 3908, 3925, 3928, 4172, 4173, 4174] are of temporary status and subject to the annual
recruitment, screening, interviewing, and physicals; and
W~B~REAS, by converting the status from temporary to permanent, you will eliminate the
annual recruitment, screening, interviewing, and physical exams, unless a vacancy occurs; develop a
stable workforce and retain better employees; reduce the time spent on annual cash in lieu vacation
auditing and processing for payments per guard; allow the employees to accrue vacation and sick
leave; and reduce the repetitive paperwork generated in the rehiring and separation process; and
WB~~R~AS, there are sufficient funds available in the Police Department's Regular Salaries
and 'JVages account (010-201-5203.01-011).
