Comm. 102.38: MARIJUANA ERADICATION MISSION REPORT FOR THE MONTH OF
FEBRUARY 2002
From Assistant Police Chief and Acting Police Chief Lawrence K. Mahuna, dated
February 25, 2002, transmitting the above report as required by Resolution 46-01.
The attached reports indicate the number of plants eradicated and the number of
complaints received from the public, the type of complaint and the complaint
disposition.

(Res. 180-02) FISCAL YEAR AND OF MORE THAN ONE FISCAL YEAR FOR ANIMAL
CONTROL SERVICES
From Finance Director `Villiam Takaba, dated March 6, 2002, transmitting the above
resolution. The County ~3~~ill soon be issuing a request for proposals (RFP) seeking to
contract with an organization to provide animal control services for a period up to
June 30, 2005.

Comm. 546: AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO. 01-55, AS AMENDED, TIDE
(Bill 190) OPERATING BUDGET F'flR THE COUNTY OF HAWAII FOR THE FISCAL
YEAR ENDING JUNE 30, 2002 (by appropriating an $80,000 Community Gun
Violcnce Prosecution Program Grant from the U S Department of Justices)
From Finance Director William Takaba, dated March 6, 2002, transmitting the above
bill. The $80,000 is the first year's allotment of a three (3) year grant totaling
$240,000, which will be used to supplement the funding of two (2) Deputy
Prosecuting Attorney positions. These positions will be assigned to prosecute serious
violent crimes involving g~zns.
Comm. 547: RESOLUTION CHANGING THE POSITION STATUS OF SCHOOL CROSSING
(Res. 181-02) GUARDS (HOURLY) (TEMPORARY) TO PERMANENT STATUS
From Finance Director ~V:Iliam Takaba, dated March 6, 2002, transmitting the above
resolution. This conversion of forty (40) School Crossing Guard positions will
reduce the repetitive paperwork generated by the annual rehiring and separation
process and will develop a more stable and better workforce.

Regional Circulation PlarA (grant from the State Department of Transportation)

Comm. 531: APPOINTMENT OF PETER L. HENDRICKS TO THE POLICE COMMISSION
From Mayor Marry Kim, dated February 25, 2002, submitting for confirmation the
following appointment to xle Hawaii County Police Commission:

Mr. Hendricks is a retired Information Specialist with the Department of Land
and Natural Resources (DLNR), Division of Aquatic Resources, and presently
serves on various organizations. He states that he is not affiliated with any
political party and, if confirmed, will serve a term to expire on December 31,
2006. He will be replacing Clarence Mills, whose term has expired.

Council's approval of the z~bove-described donation, which will be used to stimulate
the economy and to proma~e Hawaii as a tourist destination. The donor has
stipulated that the art prints, (250 entitled "Kona Mangoes" and 250 entitled "Secret
Fire") be given away to others and never sold.
