WH~~EAS, the U.S. Department of Justice has awarded the Community Gun Violence
Prosecution Program Grant monies to the Oftice of the Prosecuting Attorney; and
WHEREAS, these federal funds, supplemented by the State's Criminal Career Program Grant,
will provide for the creation of two (2) Deputy Prosecuting Attorney (Temporary) positions; one in the
Hilo office and one in the Kona office; and
WHEREAS, these positions will be assigned to facilitate the rapid, responsive, and effective
prosecution of serious violent crimes involving guns; and
W~fEI~EAS, Article V, Section 5-1.3(c) of the Hawaii County Charter states that the hllayor has
the power to "Create positions...fortyhich appropriations have been made by the council...".
NOW, THEREFORE, ~E Il" RESOL1fE® ~Y 1`HE COUNCIL OF THE COtlNTY OF ~BaAWAI`I
that two (2) Deputy Prosecuting Attorney (Temporary) positions be created.
RE IT FURTHER RESOLVEC that funds will be made available through the U.S. Department
of Justice's Community Gun Violence Prosecution Program Grant and the State's Career Criminal
Program Grant.
~E IT FURTO~ER DES®I~VED that a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the Departments
of Finance and Civil Service, and the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney.
