Item 4: Serving on NACo Steering Committees
This is in response to Communication No. 569 from Council Member Tyler and his request that
council members wishing to serve on NACo steering committees forward their name for NACo's
consideration.
While there may be benefits to having a voice on NACo's steering committees, the appointment
of a council member will require commitment of your time and the county's money to travel to
steering committee meetings.
Currently,l-ISAC budgets up to $1,000 for each of the three NACo board meetings held per year
for Mr. Tyler who sits on the NACo board. The balance of Mr. Tyler's travel is paid for by the
County. Should another council member from this county be appointed to serve on a steering
committee, that council member's expense will be borne entirely by the County.
For your information, the cost of mainland meetings vary from +$1500 to +$3000 depending
upon the length of the trip, the cost of the meeting, its location, and the airline.
For another council member to serve on a steering committee, our travel budget may have to be
increased.
