REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC WORKS & <br /> INTERGOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS <br /> <br /> DATE: March 7, 2002 RE: COMMUNICATION NO. 518/BILL NO. 175 <br /> PLACE: Councilroom <br /> <br /> TIME: 9:08 a.m. <br /> Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations, to which was referred <br /> Communication No. 518 and attached Bill No. 175 reports as follows: <br /> The purpose of Bill No. 175 is to amend Chapter 24 of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (1995 Edition), <br /> relating to Vehicles and Traffic by adding a stop intersection on Hi`iaka Street at Hale Ali`i Street and <br /> 'Ainahua Alanui Street in the Kuhio Village Subdivision, South Kohala. <br /> Communication No. S l 8, dated February 7. 2002, is from Deputy Director Ronald Ueoka, Department of <br /> Public Works, transmitting Bill No. 175 for the Council's review and consideration. In his letter, <br /> Mr. Ueoka states that this proposal, if adopted by the County Council, will require motorists traveling <br /> along Hi`iaka Street to stop at the Hale Ali`i/`Ainahua Street intersection. In addition, l~tr. Ueoka reports <br /> that the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (manager and owner of these streets) concur with the <br /> improvements as proposed. A letter dated December 13, 2001, from Department of Hawaiian Home <br /> Lands, West Hawaii District Office Supervisor James Du Pont confirming their position is attached to <br /> Communication No. 518. <br /> During Committee discussion, Your Chair explained to Members of the Committee that these roads were <br /> not new roads, but rather pre-existing ones. It was also requested that the Department of Public Works <br /> include appropriate diacriticals in future transmittal letters to the Council.
