Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Resolution No. 177-02, transmitted by Mayor
Harry Kim per Communication No. 527, dated February 15, 2002, regarding the naming of streets in the
County of Hawaii, reports as follows:
Resolution No. l 77-02 authorizes the approval of the street names for the roadways within Pacific
Heights Subdivision, Increment IV, Kukuau, South Hilo, Hawaii.
The Planning Commission at its .ianuary 18, 2002 meeting approved the names for the roadways in
Exhibit "A" as follows:
"Kuahiwi Place" - mountain or high hill
"Kikau Place" - to give freely and with goodwill
Pursuant to Section 22-35, Article 2, Chapter 22 of the Hawaii County Code, the Council is authorized
to adopt street names for Hawaii County's unnamed roadways.
A "friendly" amendment to include kahakos in the word "Kukuau" was proposed by Committee Member
Curtis Tyler.
Your Committee did not entertain further discussion on this measure.
Your Committee on Planning concurs with the intent and purpose of Resolution No. 177-02, as amended
to Resolution No. 177-02. Draft 2. and recommends its adoption.
