Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Resolution No. 178-02, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim
per Communication No. 527, dated February 15, 2002, regarding the naming of streets in the County of
Hawaii, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 178-02 authorizes the approval of the street names for the roadways within the Hawi Mutual
Self Help Subdivision, Hawi, North Kohala, Ha«~ai`i.
The Planning Commission at its January 18, 2002 meeting approved the names for the roadways in Exhibit
"A" as follows:
"Waipiele Street" - after the n. Mme of the gulch adjacent to the subdivision
"Hikiaupea Street" - after the n<<me of the ahupua`a
"Hikiaupea Place" - after the name of the ahupua`a
Pursuant to Section 22-35, Article 2, Chapter 22 of the Hawaii County Code, the Council is authorized to
adopt street names for Hawa`i County's unnamed roadways.
Committee Member Curtis Tyler asked Your Committee to check into the correct spelling of the street names.
Ne also mentioned that the name Hawi should have kahakos. Your Committee will appease the request, and
prepare a subsequent draft if necessary.
Your Committee did not entertain further discussion on this measure.
Your Committee on Planning concurs with the intent and purpose of Resolution No. 178-02, and recommends
its adoption.
