Council Chair and Members Hawaii County Council I-Iilo, I~Iawai`i 96720 Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 499, reports as follows: Communication No. 499, transmitted by Mayor harry Kim, dated January 23, 2002, nominates Mr. Gerald M. Kita and Ms. Kaliko Chun to serve on the Hawaii County Salary Commission. Council District 4 - A resident of Hawaii for 36-years, Mr. Gerald M. Kita is a former Chairman of the Hawaii County Salary Commission. He currently is a Public Housing Supervisor for the State of Hawaii Housing Program (DBEDT/HCDC). Mr. Kita is a member of the ~~~~iakea Lions Club. A member of the Democratic Party, he will serve a term to end December 31, 2006. Council District 7 -,A lifelong resident of 1-lawai`i, Ms. Kaliko Chun is currently doing part time multiple duties for her family business, Lturge, Inc. She has served as the Community Liaison for State Senator Lorraine Inouye and prior to that, she served as a State 1-louse Legislate ,~v Aide for Representative Virginia Isbell. Ms. Chun is a member of the Advisory Council for the Queen Liliuokalani Children's Center, a delegate to the Aha`oni Hawaii (Native Hawaiian Convention) and a member of the Coalition of Hawaiian Organizations. She has served as past director for Hui Na`au`ao and past Vice Chair for the Kailt~> Village Design Commission. Of no political party affiliation, he will serve a term to end December 31, 2006. Pursuant to Section 13-28, Hawaii County Charter, the salary commission shall consist of nine members appointed by the mayor with the approval of the council. One member shall be a resident of each council district. Communication No. 499.01, transmitted by Executive Assistant Wendell Hatada, dated January 31, 2002, requested the nomination for Ms. Kaliko Chun be rescinded as the term of Commissioner Rodney Watanabe of District 7 has not expired. Mr. Gerald M. Kita did not attend today's meeting; however, Your Committee requested his presence at the next Council meeting. Your Committee on Finance recommends the confirmation of Mr. Gerald M. Kita of Council District 4 to the Hawaii County Salary Commission to serve a teri~~ ending December 31, 2006.
