COUNTY COUNCIL --F~
County ofHawai'i
Hawaii County Building
25 Aupuni Street
Hilo, Hawaii 96720
April 16, 2002
TO: The Honorable Harry Kim, Mayor
County of Hawaii C'7
FROM: Leningrad Elarionoff, Chair
Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations
RE: Bill 205 relating to Streets and Sidewalks
Sections 22-36, 22-37, 22-38, 22-39, 22-40, 22-41, 22-42, and 22-43 of the Hawaii County Code,
currently set forth the requirements for house numbering in and within the district of South Hilo. Bill
No. 205 proposes to repeal these sections in the law with no language to replace it.
This is to request a response by you or your representative to the following questions relating to this
action:
1. What will be the impact of having no house/building numbering law for the district of
South Hilo?
2. If there is little or no impact, why issue numbers at all?
3. Are we placing the County of Hawaii, particularly public safety respondents, at risk by
eliminating this requirement for the district of South Hilo?
4. What is the administration's anticipated timeframe for completing a new house/building
numbering bill?
5. How will the bill, if passed, affect the civil service position in the Building Department
presently issuing house and building numbers?
I would appreciate the presence of you or your representative at the Council meeting on April 17, 2002, to
answer the above questions or any other concerns the council members may have. Thank you in advance
for your response.
