Re: NO TO BILL 62
NO TO RES®LUTION 74-9
Dear Mr. Yagong;
As one of your Constituents in Ham ua, I want you to vote NO to Bill 62, and NO to
Resolution 74-97.
AS a full-time student at the Univer , I have heard both sides of the irradiation plant
debate, and I am convinced that B ER SOLUTIONS EXIST. We do not want to
solve one problem with an even bi r one. My father was a physicist who worked for
decades on the safety aspects of p ` cetime.uses of nuclear energy. He let me know
that there are TREMENDOUS ONd: ING PROBLEMS related to using radioactivity in
the manner proposed, not just in th 'technology itself, but in the UNKNOWN and
UNTESTED health hazards which ISt in the use of produce so treated.
If Someone, for whatever reasons, inks that it is a good plan to jump right in and
support this WITHOUT KNOWING OUCH ABOUT IT, (AS HAS JUST R (':FNTI V

We all know money is behind the pr otion of this idea. Knowledge is behind the
other Side. Our own distinguished Paul Dixon of UHH, who was nominated for the
Nobel Prize in Physics, has said dir ly, "OF COURSE TH~~I .EAR IRRADIATION
OF FOODS IS A~ANGEROUS ID He has absolutely~o investment in this one
way or the other, he simply knows tf1' facts, and is not motivated to say otherwise.
Can we say the same for the "It's s ' "folks? IF THERE IS EVEN A QUESTION, WE
MUST EXAMINE THE WHOLE ISS CLOSELY, USING gEP~J7ABLE RESEARCH
P T N I~ENGE AND HEARTS. After all, it is
not just someone else's children an randchildren who will be harmed by our jumping
in blindfolded, listening only to those ho have a fiduciary stake m this controversial
idea- Ignorance fueled by is a re 8 for disaster, it has been proven time and
again.
DO NOT VOTE FOR BILL 62 AND SOLUTION 74-97 I know you, by your record,
to be a person of courage in the fa f opposition. Let us regard ignorance as our
common enemy and do the right thi here.
PLEASE MAKE THIS A NUMBERS pMMUNICATION, AND PLEASE GIVE A C C.
