Dear Councilman Yagong:
Thank you f®r yovx letter of Apri13, 2002 inforrriing us of Resolution No. 189-2. At our
monthly board meeting held on Monday, Apri18, our board of Directors went oia record
t;, ,support the intent and purpose of this resolution.
As a result of the September 11 terrorist attack, the economy of. ]E-Iawaii took a signi~car,t a
downtown and is only now starting to recover. Since this dark day in our history, many
Americans arou]7d the country and in 1-Iawaii have been forced to endure job layoffs and
other significant diszuptions i.n their lives. It is a sad reality that our lives have been
changed forever.
Understanding the fiscal emerget].cy that Hawaii County is facing with the upcoming
budget, it is understandable that the Council is tasked with. making dif~zcult decisions.
