Allow me to sham with you what vae had to do to survive in the mid and late nineties, duririg
our State's economic depression:
• In 1990 we loci 13 employees; by rtnid-1998 we were down to 5
• We shor~exied our Store hours
• ~e asked for and received 2 xna~or rent concessions from our landlord
+ No wage or salary increases for '7 years
• hours were cut drastically for General IVlanager acid Officc 1Vlanager
Salaries were cut for General Manager axed Office Manager
• The owner drew xao salary frorra 1993 through 1999
• The General Manager ~xialiy lead to go
m Our income had dropped to 4596 of what it had been in 1990
But we stayed alive and are novr healflay again.
Durixag this tines, i don't recall any slowdown in state or county spending, and while County
workers axed State workers didn't gniss array benefits or pay raises, we saw an increase in
personnel to the point of having o ~ ~
Tlae private sector paid for it in spades with both business and personal bankruptcies
that led tree nation for 2 years, quite an accomplishment for such a small state.
fiwo words pop into xny head regarding the govexxinaent's handling of their fiscal duties during
our depression - ignorance and ~rrogancc. A dangerous combination!
Regarding Resolution ~ 189.02

everyone got aloaag when you were growing up? Amaaingly enough, we achieved what we did
with no programs and no hand-outs!
I was obligated to make some very difficult decisions in order to keep our business viable.
