Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 188-02, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 188-02, transmitted by Director of Finance William Takaba, via Communication
No. 565, dated March 20, 2002, creates two (2) Deputy Prosecuting Attorney (Temporary)
positions for the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney.
These positions, one for the Hilo Office and the other for the Kona Office, will be assigned to
facilitate the rapid, responsive, and effective prosecution of serious violent crimes involving
guns.
Funds will be made available through the U.S. Department of Justice's Community Gun
Violence Prosecution Program Grant and the State's Criminal Career Program Grant.
Some members of Your Committee expressed concerns over the County's obligation to fund
these positions after the grant funds are utilized.
For informational purposes, Mr. Tyler voted kanalua once then a yes vote.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 188-02
and recommends its adoption.
