COMMITTEE ON PLANNING
DATE: April 16, 2002 Re: C-1015/Res. No. 336-98
PLACE: Councilroom
TIME: 9:10 a.m.
Chair and Members
Hawaii County Council
Hilo, Hawaii 96720
Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Resolution No. 336-98, transmitted
by Mayor Steven K. Yamashiro, per Communication No. 1015, dated September 29,
1998, regarding the naming of streets in the County of Hawaii, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 336-98 authorizes the approval of the street name for the roadway in the
Kaauhuhu-Kahei Homesteads, North Kohala, Hawaii.
The Planning Commission at its September 18, 1998 meeting approved the name for the
roadway in Exhibit "A" as follows:
Beers Road - Locally known and accepted name which
has been used for a long time; name of the
first resident on the road
Pursuant to Section 22-35, Article 2, Chapter 22 of the Hawaii County Code, the
Council is authorized to adopt street names for Hawa`i County's unnamed roadways.
Resolution No. 336-98 was first agendized on October 20, 1998, but was deferred
because the residents were not in total agreement on the name. Although historically
known as Beers Road, there were other names used which confused the residents, hence
the deferral.
At today's meeting, the name "Beers Road" was presented as part of Resolution
No. 190-02, which was unanimously approved by Your Committee.
Your Committee did not entertain any discussion on this measure.
Your Committee on Planning does not concur with the intent and purpose of Resolution
No. 336-98, and recommends it be filed.
