I am writing you this letter to express my concern over the recent reports that Mayor Kim would
like to raise the property tax.
I have lived and owned my home since 1979. Ten years ago I took it upon myself to dedicate
my home in the hopes of taking advantage of the spiraling residential appraisals. It virtually
locked in the value of my home for ten years. This year is the final year of this dedication.
I have again applied for the same dedication for the next ten years. I understand that the taxable
value of my home will be 50% of the difference of the reappraised value, which is acceptable. I
believe that this program was first enacted about the time I first entered into this agreement, as
did many many others. With this in mind, did anyone consider that the additional revenue this is
going to generate might be something that was overlooked?
My situation is as follows:
Value for last ten years 155,000
Value of reappraisal 195,500 (called tax office 3/6/02)
(hopefully this is the reappraised
value and not the taxable amount)
Difference 40,500
50% of difference 20,250
Additional tax at current rate 90.11
Now, if you add the additional tax that Mr. Kim is requesting, it would be another $127.93,
which basically hits twice as hard for the people who decided to live in their own homes. This
may not seem like a huge amount but consider those that did the dedication and are on fixed
incomes.

It will be a hard decision to make but why should the people who own property be penalized and
pay for all the added expense of the county. It should be something that could generate income
across the board or it may even be, as Mr. Rath said in the legislature, that less government be a
real consideration.
Please have some compassion for those of us that have been born and will likely die here and
make it affordable for those I leave behind.
