Subject: Irradiation Facility
Dear Chairman Arakaki and Members of the Hawaii
County Council:
In order for us to provide badly needed jobs and to sustain
the economy of the Big Island, we must export goods and
services that replace the income we derived from the former
sugar industry.
The economics are simple. If we do not have a source of
outside income to pay for the goods we import such as cars,
building materials, clothing and other goods, we will go
bankrupt as a county.
An irradiation facility will allow us to export products
nationally and internationally. It will provide a source of
"foreign exchange" that is essential to our economy.
If our County and State do not start encouraging and actively
supporting projects that will give a jump start to our
economy and allow small. businesses to stay in business, we
will soon be a State of only government workers and welfare
recipients. Is anyone lister.ina_? It is business that pays
for government workers and welfare recipients.
I ask your support cf the irradiation facility and its
potential benefits to the people and economy of the Big
Island.
