If Councilmember Lelthead-Todd wishes, she can levy the increase in Hilo District 2(district she repres®nts) or even better the entire east side, where the benefits are reaped more profusely. Yes, the easy thing to do is just raise taxes and be done with it, but the citizens of Hawaii County aren't paying the council's salary to do just what is easy. As in the private sector, tough decisions are made every day, even tf It requires placing employees on a four day work week to reduce Elie payroll, streamlining operations to combine positions that overlap, andlor layoffs, etc. In actuality the choices are quite clear, either: 1) reduce expenditures or 2) increase revenues, Please have the county council look for more creative ways to salve this budget ehallenge and refrain from just doing what comes easy, Furthermore, I wn~,ld IikQ to applaud your excellent performance on the council over the years and your continued determination to do the "right thing" for the citizens of Hawaii and for the future generations to come. Thank you. Mahalo, Peggy McArdle 7'2-3990 Hawaii Belt Road Kailua Kona, HI 96740 325 7824 Mmcardtel9@aol,com Comm. No. • Fite No.~ _ SAY 15 2~~
