Dear Council members:
I do not want to pay more taxes while the current inequity in taxes between
West and East Hawaii exists. This also refers to the current inequity in
services provided to the west side of this Island.
This is not something that "we will look at maybe in 2003-2004". This is a
very real and important situation that you must address right now. If you
have any hopes or concerns about being impartial and fair as to taxes and
services regarding West and East Hawaii, you need to act immediately.
The attitude that has existed for many years vis-a-vis East and West Hawaii
will simply not fly anymore. We need, want and demand equal and
responsible treatment and services from our elected and appointed officials.
This is "2002" and needs to be seen from a different perspective than has
been accepted for many years.
You have an opportunity to act in a responsible manner that can, and will, go
along way towards helping this Island's residents feel more of a sense of
unity with each other. There is no need for the west side of the island to have
to feel like we always get the very short end of the stick. Please act
responsibly and address the inequity in taxes now!
Sincerely,
Stan Boren
