RE: Bill Amending the Hawaii County Code (Building Code)
Relating to Existing Buildings and Structures
This is to transmit a bill for an ordinance amending Chapter 5-1,0,2,a. of the Hawaii County
Code relating to the application of the Uniform Building code to Existing Buildings and
Structures.
This bill amends the Building Code by allowing amultiple-family building as an exception to the
non-conforming section of the Code when the non-conforming situation is the consequence of an
amendment to the general plan and associated zoning, and if the applicable zoning would permit
construction of asingle-family residence.
This bill contains the concepts in the related Bill No. 157 and applies them to the Building Code.
The Department of Public Works-Building Division Chief has reviewed the subject bill.
