Comm. 631: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 24, OF THE HAWAI`1 COUNTY CODE
(Bill 219) 1983 (1995 EDITION) RELATING TO VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC (Proposed Yield
location at Pohakea Road Bridge -Pohakea Homestead Road, Pa`auilo)
From Mr. Ronald Ueoka, Deputy Director, Department of Public Works, dated May I,
2002, per request of the Hamakua Safety Council, transmitting the above bill to install a
yield sign at the Pohakea Road Bridge. Informs they investigated their request and
concluded that makai bound motorists should stop and yield to oncoming mauka bound
traffic because of better sight distance of approaching vehicles. Also informs, the
Department of Public Works, Highways Division, was contacted to trim existing
vegetation to further improve available sight distance.
Comm. 634: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 24, OF THE HAWAII COUNTY CODE
(Bill 221) 1983 (1995 EDITION) RELATING TO VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC (Proposed No
Parking_Zone -southwest side of Aupuni Street by the back entrance to Aupuni Center)
From Mr. Ronald Ueoka, Deputy Director, Department of Public Works, dated May 9.
2002, transmitting the above bill. The location is opposite the existing walkway from the
existing County Building parking lot. States the purpose of the no parking zone is to
provide sight distance for County employees crossing Aupuni Street between the existing
County Building and the new Aupuni Center Complex.

(Res. 215-02) AND EASEMENTS, SITUATE IN THE DISTRICT OF NORTH KONA, COUNTY
AND STATE OF HAWAII FOR THE KAHULUI-KEAUHOU PARKWAY
From Assistant Corporation Counsel Gerald Takase, dated May 16, 2002. transmitting
the above resolution authorizing the condemnation of land for the Kahului-Keauhou
Parkway in North Kona.
Comm. 641: A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE DONATION OF A ROADWAY LOT KNOWN
(Res. 217-02) AS AINALOA BOULEVARD FROM THE AINALOA COMMUNITY
ASSOCIATION [NC.
From Council Member Gary Safarik, dated May 22, 2002, transmitting the above
resolution. Informs this resolution evolved out of a meeting he held with Mayor Kim,
Corporation Counsel's Office, Public Works Department, and with the Ainaloa
Community Association.
Comm. 641.1: From Ainaloa Community Association, dated May 14, 2002, stating their support of
some of the stipulations of the Mayor's proposal to take ownership ofthe Ainaloa
Boulevard with certain stipulations. Further, they agreed not to close the road again until
the question of ownership is resolved by the County Counsel.
Comm. 641.2: Copy of letter to Mayor Harry Kim, from William H. Coney, President, Ainaloa
Community Association, dated May 21, 2002, stating their support of his proposal to gate
the Puna Emergency Access Road with availability for use of emergency vehicles such as
fire, police, rescue, ambulance, etc. Informs their only exception was in the wording,
"use of the public for access or egress." States, if there is a tidal wave or lava flow
endangering public safety, an escape route during a state of emergency is acceptable.
