Regarding: Bill 181 ~ Operating Budget for the County of Hawaii
I!/ly name is Ralph C. Boyea.
I am a resident of ®rchidland subdivision in Kea'au Hawaii. I have lived in nny current
r®sidence for 25 years.
I am writing in favor of Bill 181 and in favor of AAayor Kim's proposed prop®rty tax increase. I
believe the County of Flawaii needs to continue the services it is currently providing. I beli®ve
the County needs to expand services not reduce there. We need to expand our police, fire
and fife guard protection and we need to maintain current C®unty facilities.
if it is necessary to increase property taxes to accomplish this th®n I am in favor of sash an
increase. In my 25 years in Puna I have assn County services go up while rrry Property tax bill
has gone down. e~y property tax bill is currently about one-half of what it was 1 Q years ago.
In the same time I have witnessed the opening and manning of the Hawaii Paradise Park Pire
station, the opening of the Pahoa Police sub-station [this may have included additional patrol
positions]; the opening of Ahalanui b®ach park and the staffing of that park with Lifuards
[Water Safety ®ffcers]; the opening and staffing [Lifeguards & maintenance] of th® Pahoa
Swimming Pool; and, the opening and staffing of the hlawaiian Beaches Community Center.
These veers all in addition to the existing facilities such as: Shipman Gym and Park , IVIt. View
Gym, etc.
If we avant these services we must be willing to pay forth®m. I cannot see how anyone can
expect the County to provide these and other services avithout increasing County revenues.
I understand this is a political year and that voting to increase taxes is unheard of in political
years. I urge you to show us all that you are p®ople of honor; that you are avilling to do the
right thing and vote in favor of these proposals.
I urge you to vote `yes' on IVlayor Kim's budget.
I urge you to vote 'yes' on illlayor Kim's proposed property tax increases.
Thank you for your continued leadership of Hawaii County.
