The dig Island visitor industry provides 37% of the jobs on. the Sig Island. When
was the 13ig Island Allanager for Halo liattBes, one of the things that gave me the
most job satisfacti®n was the ability to contribute support tq so many of our local
families. In addition t® direct erv~ployment, there are the jobs which service our
visitor industry. !n fact, there is not one sector that is not tied in s®rne way to the
success of the visitor Indus#ry.
After the tragic events of September 11, we saw the immediate crippling effects
of a tourisnn downturn. All parts of our Sig Island economy were affected. We
are regaining the rnorreenturn of our visitor industry. `The leadership of our Sig
Island Visi#ors bureau and of the Sig Island Croup have provided carefully
thought out, and effective marketing strategies, and our visitor industry is leading
the rec®very in the Islands. These are prudent people who take their mission
seriously. Your support of visitor industry funding is crucial to the full econonl6c
recovery of the Sig lsla,nd. Our government must work together with the visitor
industry on this Island to provide for a healthy, sustainable economic
environt~ent.
I urge you to continue to support funding for the Sig Island Visitors Sureau and
the F3ig Island Croup.
