Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 616, reports as follows:
Communication No. 616, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated April 29, 2002, nominates
Ms. Jan K. Yokoyama of Council District 2 to serve on the Hawaii County Liquor Control
Adjudication Board. Ms. Yokoyama would replace Mr. Ralph Black whose term expired on
December 31, 2001.
A lifetime resident of Hawaii, Ms. Jan K. Yokoyama is a registered nurse with the State
Department of Health. Ms. Yokoyama is the current treasurer and past president of the Hawaii
Alliance for Community Health and the current secretary for the Big Island Coalition for
Neighborhood Safety. She also served as past president of the Hawaii Association for the
Diabetes Educators and is a board member of the American Diabetes Association-Hawaii
Chapter. A member of the Democratic Party, she will serve a term to end December 31, 2006.
Pursuant to Article VII, Chapter 3, Section 7-3.3, Hawaii County Charter, there shall be a liquor
control adjudication board consisting of five members who shall be appointed by the mayor and
confirmed by the council.
Your Committee on Finance recommends the confirmation of Ms. Jan K. Yokoyama to the
Hawaii County Liquor Control Adjudication Board to serve a term ending December 31, 2006.
