Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 617, reports as follows:
Communication No. 617, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated May 2, 2002, nominates
Mr. Marlin S. Werner of Council District 1 to the Hawaii County Pension Board. Mr. Werner
would replace Ms. Agnes Perreira who resigned.
A resident of Hawaii for 15 years, Mr. Marlin S. Werner is currently retired from private
practice as an audiologist and speech pathologist. In 1987, Mr. Werner established a Hilo
Chapter of the Self-Help for Hard of Hearing Persons. He has also served with the State of
Hawaii Department of Health Hearing Impaired Task Force, County of Hawaii Mayor's
Committee on People with Disabilities, Hawaii State Board of Hearing Aid Dealers and Fitters,
Bay Clinics of I-Iawai`i Board, and the Salvation Army Advisory Board, Hilo Temple Corps.
Mr. Werner is also a past president of the Big Island Safety Association, four time president of
the Hilo HARP, and a sponsor of the Stroke Club of Hilo. Of no political party affiliation, he
will serve a term to end December 31, 2004.
Pursuant to Article VI, Chapter 3, Section 6-3.4, Hawaii County Charter, there shall be pension
board consisting of five members who shall appointed by the mayor with the approval of the
council.
Your Committee on Finance recommends the confirmation of Mr. Marlin S. Werner to the
Hawaii County Pension Board to serve a term ending December 31, 2004.
