REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON PLANNING <br /> DATE: May 14, 2002 Re: C-620 <br /> PLACE: Councilroom <br /> <br /> TIME: 2:11 p.m. <br /> <br /> Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 620, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, <br /> <br /> dated May 2, 2002, reports as follows: <br /> <br /> Communication No. 620 recommends the appointment of the following individual to the Hawaii County Planning <br /> <br /> Commission: <br /> Mr. Jeffrey W. McCall, of no political affiliation, will be representing Council District 6, and serving a term <br /> to expire on December 31, 2006. He is filling the seat vacated by Millie Mosher, whose term expired on <br /> December 3 l , 2001. <br /> Mr. McCall, a lifelong resident of Hawaii, is currently the owner/manager of McCall Flower Farms. He is <br /> the current director and treasurer of the Ka'u Soil and Water Conservation and Development. He served as <br /> past director for the Wood Vally Co-op. He has been a member of or has been a past member of <br /> organizations as D1VAC0 Co-op, Hawaii County Farm Bureau, the Puna Soil and Water Conservation <br /> District and the Big Island Association of Nurserymen. <br /> Pursuant to Section 5-4.3 of the Hawaii County Charter, the mayor shall appoint members of the Planning <br /> <br /> Commission to be confirmed by the Council, as prescribed in Section 13-4 of the Hawaii County Charter. <br /> Several Committee Members commended Mr. McCall for the work he has done with the Soil and Water <br /> <br /> Conservation and his experience with agriculturally zoned land. <br /> Mr. McCall explained that he has been involved with agriculture his entire life, and he is an advocate for agriculture <br /> and small businesses. He was asked to be on this commission, and if he can be of service, he will be there, but in <br /> doing so, will have to relinquish some of his other obligations. <br /> Your Chair thanked him for his willingness to serve on the Planning Commission, and also explained that he need <br /> not be present at the Council meeting on June 5, 2002 when his appointment is confirmed by the Council. <br /> Your Committee did not entertain further discussion on Mr. McCall's appointment to the Planning Commission. <br /> Your Committee on Planning recommends the approval of the appointment of Mr. Jeffrey W.
