Your Committee on Parks & Environmental Management, to which was referred
Communication No. 613, reports as follows:
Communication No. 613 is from Mayor Harry Kim, dated Apri129, 2002, submitting
the appointments of Edmund "Denny" Austen, George T. Mukai and Patrick A. Pavao
to the Veterans Advisory Committee.
Mr. Austen is a six-year resident of Hawaii and currently serves as the Post
Commander for VFW Post 3875 of Hilo. He is not affiliated with any political
party and will serve a term to expire on December 31, 2006.
Mr. Mukai, a lifelong resident of Hawaii, is currently retired from Hawaii
Planing Mill Ltd., where he served as Vice President. He is not affiliated with
any political party and will serve a term to expire on December 31, 2006.
Mr. Pavao, a lifelong resident of Hawaii, recently retired from the State of
Hawaii Department of Defense, Office of Veterans Services and currently is a
Development Instructor with the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mr. Pavao is not
affiliated with any political party and will serve a term to expire on December
31, 2006.
Mr. Wendell Hatada of the Mayor's Office will follow up with Corporation Counsel and
with the Parks and Recreation Director to clarify the legality of appointment for the
At-Large seat of the Veterans Advisory Committee. He will also clarify the legality of
the Hawaii County Code when the listed organizations in Section 15-61(b) are no
longer in existence and the procedure to be used to fill the vacant seat of the Veterans
Advisory Committee.
Council Member J. Curtis Tyler voted kanalua twice.

of the nominations of Edmund "Denny" Austen, George T. Mukai and Patrick A. Pavao
to the Hawaii County Veterans Advisory Committee.
