As a native Hawaiian, born and raised on this island I implore you to protect and preserve the
shoreline and put a moratorium on development.
Living the lifestyle of the ahupua'a system, my Grandpa, with donkey, traveled the trail down from
Kalaoa to the sea, to catch fish, dry them and bring them mauka.

This area has been called Pine Tree's/Kohanaiki, I understand that the Mayor and Planning Director have
proposed to put it into OPEN SPACE designation. I wholeheartedly support Bill # 163.

The old days are long gone. Asphalt, concrete, crime and pain of the soul and spirit replaces `Aloha'.

Nowadays, 'Aloha' is used in the context of commercialization-as in profit-to be used to further
prostitute the 'aina.
Subsistence life for the Hawaiian and peace of mind is becoming scarce. Rampant development has been

given free reign. It is timely for government officials to be held accountable for the rape and pillage

perpetrated here.
My Grandpa worked construction and my Grandma worked at a hotel-they both died premature deaths.
Hawaiians face alarming statistics-including a disproportionate number of I-iawaiians locked behind
prison walls. Though the population of Hawaiians is only 1/5`h of the general population. Cultural

genocide from unbridled development is wiping out the ability to be a Hawaiian. Traditional custom and

practices, cultural and religious practice of Hawaiian people are curtailed. Whereas the developers are

given free jurisdiction to `pave and fleece paradise'.
Last summer and fall, I attended college and played football in Santa Cruz, California. I surfed in filthy
water, returned home in December. [appreciate more than ever, the natural beauty and blessings, which

this island still has, somewhat intact. I appeal to you members of the Hawaii County Council to uphold
the motto that hangs in the County Council chambers "Ua mau ke ea o ka 'aina i ka pond". Please adopt
the new proposed Hawaii County General Plan-and include a moratorium on development. The needed
infrastructure to accommodate current problems will provide enough jobs.
Mahalo plen .
G®/
Kane Keana'aina Corrrvn.
