Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 216-02, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 216-02, transmitted by Director of Finance William Takaba, via Communication
No. 640, dated May 14, 2002, authorizes the acceptance of a donation from various individuals,
organizations, and businesses.
Various individuals, organizations, and businesses, as listed in an exhibit, have collectively
donated $10,000 to the Department of Parks & Recreation to the Aquatics Division for the
electricity costs incurred to heat the Kona Community Aquatic Center swimming pool.
Pursuant to Article XIII, Section 13-12, Hawaii County Charter, the Council, on behalf of the
County, may accept gifts or donations of personal property.
During its discussion, Your Committee learned that the Kona Community Aquatic Center was
heated during the winter months when the Department of Parks ~ Recreation promised the
community to heat the pool if they could get donations to reimburse the department for its
electricity cost.
A letter of appreciation will be sent to the donors listed in Exhibit "A" acknowledging this
generous donation.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 216-02
and recommends its adoption.
