Re: Operating Budget
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, through the State Department of Health,
Emergency Medical Services System, has authorized funding for EMS personnel to conduct
community injury prevention projects. The Hawaii County Fire Department applied for and was
awarded a grant to develop a training program on the usage of child transport seats for all
ambulance units on the island of Hawaii.
Enclosed is a resolution to authorize the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State of Hawaii
Department of Health.
Also enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating this
$2,000 EMS for Children Grant.

B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
The State of Hawaii Department of Health, Emergency Medical Services System made grants of up to
$2,000 available to EMS personnel to conduct community injury prevention projects. The grants are funded
through a grant from the "Emergency Medical Services for Children" program of the federal Department of
Health and Human Services.
The Hawaii County Fire Department applied for and was awarded a grant to develop a training program on
the usage of child transport seats for all ambulance units on the island of Hawaii.
