Add a Representative of The MiBitary ®rder of the Purple Heart
Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending Chapter 15, Article 7, of the Hawaii County Code
1983 (1995 Edition), relating to the Veterans Advisory Committee, adding Military Order of the
Purple Heart and Deleting Subsection (g).
fibs Military Order of the Purple Heart, Hilo Chapter #731 in June 2002, received its recognition
charter to Congressionally chartered Military Order of the Purple Heart of the United States of
America, Inc. In recognition of this newly chartered veterans organization, we would like to
increase membership of the Veterans Advisory Committee to sixteen in order to include a
representative of the Military Order of the Purple Heart on the committee.

A. REQUEST:
Amendment of Chapter 15, Article 7, of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (1995 Edition),
Relating to Veterans Advisory Committee, adding Military Order of the Purple Heart and
Deleting Subsection (g).
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED:
The Military Order of the Purple Heart, Hilo Chapter #731 in June 2002, received its
recognition charter to Congressionally chartered Military Order of the Purple heart of the
United States of America., Inc.
The Council in recognition of this newly chartered veterans organization desires to add
the Military Order of the Purple Heart as a member to the Veterans Advisory Committee.
Please see the attached draft ordinance prepared by Craig Masuda, Deputy Corporation
Counsel.
