wilderness cliff areas, there is no stretch of coastline in the S.te of
Hawall with continuous unobstructed views of mountains and shoreline.
The County of Hawaii Planning I~epartrrient is in the process of
redesignating much coastal land on the dig Island to `conservation/open'
as part of the County General Plan. However, the Kohala coast is not
included in the current list of redesignated lands. The General flan that is
being worked on ~.t this time is the preferred process by which to set
policies affecting development in Kohala. These redesignateon changes
will become land use law for the next 10 years.

redesignated to a conservation/open area, it is vitally irrlportant to not
only sign this petition but to also attend the General flan meeting on
Thursday July 1 200 ~ 6:OO PM at the Kohala High School cafeteriaa
The value of preserving an open coast is obvious. Please kokua and
keep the :ohala coast a unique treasure for future generations to enjo
for many ye~~'c~rne.

We, the undersigned, ask the Hawaii County Council on Planning, to recogn~e, protect and preserve
the Kohala Coastline -from Kawaihae to Pololu Valley and beyond - by designating the Kohala
Coastline - Conservation and Open on the L.U.P.A.G. Map. We also ask for drivable access from
Akoni Pule Hwy. to the Coast at these locations:
1). t~;koni Pule to Kauhola Point and from Kauhola Point to OHAU.
2). Adconi Pule down Union Mill Road to the Coast.
3). bottom of Hoea road to Kepuhi Point.
4). olu ~4arport Road past Kamehameha's birthplace to Kaname~
5): lu A.i~rport road to the Hawi end of the runway to the coast.
