Arakaki Chairman, County Council COUNTY OF HAWAII 25 Aupuni Street Hilo, HI 96720 Re: Bill #62: Relating to the Post Harvest Treatment Facility Project Dear Councilman Arakaki: My name is John Kai and 1 am the current President of the Hawaii Island Portuguese Chamber of Commerce (HIPCC), as well as an Investment Advisor with PaineWebber, Inc. I am writing to you to reiterate the HIPCC's position in support of Bill #62. Our organization feels strongly that this project will greatly enhance the attractiveness of our locally grown produce. It will help to strengthen the image that Hawaii, as a part of the United States of America, regards the treatment of it's food supply very seriously and that fruits and vegetables imported from our Islands are safe for consumption. We also believe that this project will provide an opportunity for the family farmer to make a viable living and be a contributing member of our economy. The strength and fiscal well being of our community lies in the hands of the small business owner and an agricultural farmer would fall into this category. I urge you to recognize the growing support for this very important project. The HIPCC kindly asks that you vote in favor of this critical bill.
