By. __.e...,..__~_.,~._ Subject: Re-zoning variance for real estate developer Mr. Peter Savio. ~~g~-~-~--~----~~~'~~~'~""`~""°°'"" County Council 1 am against this re-zoning to higher density building for the following reasons: 1.) Peter Savio is just another developer. He doesn't care about farmers, why should he? He is just using them as a gimmick. As soon as the zoning is changed, the land will be advertised on the Internet, the LA Times, and so on. This is just another real estate development. Farmers need 20 acres, not 1 or 5 acres. Can I subdivide my 12 acres in Wood Valley into l acre lots and sell them? 2.) My wife and I love the quiet, remote, agricultural pastoral nature of Wood Valley and wish to preserve it. We do not want the ©C'EAN VIEW type community next to us that 6000 acres rezoned to 1 & 5 acre building sites would create. Please don't Californicate beautiful Ka'u so soon. Please wait at least another 20 years before ruining Ka'u. I know that because the human species does not yet have the intelligence to self-limit, Ka'u will eventually be another Los Angeles, but please not so soon! Please keep it Ab 20 zoning. 3.) Our one-lane roads in Wood Valley would be very dangerous for the increased traffic that this re-zoning would create. We have blind curves on a one-lane road! There are no sidewalks. The road carries horses, mules, children, tractors & cars. Because of the very low population density here, there have been no problems so far, however, but with thousands of new houses close by, sightseers and cruising teen-agers would make our quiet place a disaster. 4.) Afler the November 2, 2000 flood, we were isolated for 2 weeks, unable to get out, even with our Subaru 4-wheel drive. The washed out bridges are not yet adequately rebuilt. Can you imagine a thousand people unable to get food or water for 2 weeks. We get tons of rain up here. We measured 72 inches of rain in the 2 days of the November 2 flood. ! 5.) 6000 acres is 9 square miles. This is a 1frd~4JOIl1VElyd'CITI', not just a few farm lots! What about building new schools? Also, there is no close fire or police department, and sewage from 6000 acres rezoned to 1 and 5 acres building tracts would be a health hazard for our area. 6.) wOnce you change this zoning, it is forever irreversible after the land is sold and houses built. Please notify me if there are any hearings or meetings or notices regarding this matter. Thank you very much for your consideration, C~~ Richard S.
