Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 707, reports as tollows:
Communication No. 707, transmitted by Director of Finance William Takaba, dated
August 1, 2002, authorizes the acceptance of donations from the Friends of the Zoo.
The Friends of the Zoo has graciously donated atwo-toed sloth for educational and display
purposes to the Department of Parks & Recreation for the Pana'ewa Rainforest Zoo. The value
of this donation is estimated at $4,200.
Pursuant to Article XIII, Section 13-12, Hawaii County Charter. the Council. on behalf of the
County, may accept gifts or donations of personal property.
Also, Pursuant to Chapter 2, Article 30, Section 2-162 (c). of the Hawaii County Code, any
donation or gift which does not fall within the capitalization procedures of the department of
finance shall be submitted to the council by letter for its approval.
Since aforementioned donation does not tall within the capitalization procedures of the
department of finance, a letter was sent for its approval.
A letter of appreciation will be sent to the Friends of the Zoo, .lean Curtis, President, P.O. Box
738, Kea`au, Hawaii 96749, acknowledging these generous donations.
Your Committee on Finance recommends the acceptance of the two-toed sloth donation from the
Friends of the Zoo.
