Chairperson Arakaki, members of the Hawaii County Coucil.
My name is Adrian Barber. I reside in Leilani. I am president of
Puna Malama Pono.
I came from Yorkshire, England where the term "Dark Satanic Mills"
was coined. They had a saying there, "Where there's muck there's
brass." "Muck" means dirt, filth, pollution. It also refers to a
certain type of person. "Brass" means money. Where there's
pollution there's money!
I fought my way here through culture shock, life-style wars, rock
and roll damnation, dog fights over Broadway and parallel hell and
found healing in the ancient green prehistoric creature in the
trees. Wellness in the wild, pristine environment, in clean air
and clean water and kind people. The Spirit of Aloha. I will not
have the Hawaiian birthright sold for a mess of potage!
Geothermal will fail and it's failure will cost this county dearly
for it's pig headed refusal to see the mounting and finally
overwhelming evidence of the harm it does to people and the
environment. I council you not to repeat this folly with the only
thing worse than geothermal's poison gasses, that is nuclear
radiation.
I knew Chief Dan George, a native American. He said, "The white
man is crazy, you cannot reason with him." I stand in solidarity,
if he will permit me, with Mr. Raymond Deadman, whose testimony
before the Committee on Finance was the most moving and profound
experience I have had in these chambers. I should not hesitate to
echo his curse upon you but in my view you don't need my help.
Those of you who vote to support this reckless, full-speed-ahead-
and-datum-the-environment kind of developement curse yourselves by
fouling your own nest and my nest too. But it's not too late. Save
yourselves and your children. Vote this bill down. Don't tell the
kids, "Let then eat Plutonium."
But I come here and I say my piece with my sisters and brothers
and nothing happens and I fear to watch you sink further and
further into the morass of political expediency, in th~~rt~,of

getting things done. Have you seen what getting things done has
done? Half the people die of cancer, the other half are heart
attack or stroke victims or drug addicts of one kind or another or
crazy. We have done this. We have made the world the way it is and
I am too weak, too useless, my words are not strong enough to
reach you.
