REQUEST: To draft a resolution for County Council consideration, permitting Hawaii County to accept a donation from HELCO of a solar lighting system installed at restrooms on Hilo Bayfront. B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USA ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): The Hawaii Electric Light Company Inc. has installed a photovoltaic (PV) system at Hilo 13ayfront. Funds from a grant provided by the US ®epartment of Isnergy under its `Million Solar hoofs Initiative' (M~RI) were used to pay for the system design. HFLCO funded the purchase and installation of the system together with a $2,000 contribution from the County of Hawaii. PV roofing shingles on the cover of the kiosk provide power to illuminate a notice board informing the public about solar technologies and the MSRI. A separate PV panel provides power for lighting in the nearby restrooms used mainly by the canoe clubs. HELCO wishes to donate the complete system to the County.
