Re: OPPOSITION TO RESOLUTION 236-02
Good afternoon. My name is Rudulfo Sibucao. I farm papaya in Puna district. I
OPPOSE this resolution because I believe that if this will pass it will have a significant
negative impact to the future of the diversified agriculture industry on the Big Island.
Although this resolution is specific to Kona coffee and to the Kona districts, however it
does impact other sectors of the agriculture industry especially the papaya industry that
uses genetically encgineered papaya to keep the industry live. Without the genetically
engineered papaya, the industry has been long dead after the papaya ring spot virus got
established on the Big Island in 1992. We are greatful with this technology because it
save us from extinction.
