Rm. 201 Hilo, Hawaii Pursuant to Hawaii Revised Statutes X92-41, notice is hereby given that the Hawaii County Council's Committee on Human Services and Economic Development will be holding a public hearing to hear testimony on dill 260, an ordinance amending Chapter 14 (General Welfare) of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (1995 Edition), as amended, relating to smoking in certain places in the County of Hawaii. This bill expands the present prohibition of smoking to all enclosed places within the County, including but not limited to: restaurants (present law only covers restaurants with a seating capacit}~ of more than forty), bars, nightclubs, bowling alleys. supermarkets, common areas, any enclosed or partially enclosed area or building owned, leased, operated or maintained by the County (eKCept residential dwellings), vehicles owned or leased by the County, and private residences licensed for child care, adult day care or health care facility. The bill also repeals the exceptions to the present law (Section 14-22) for small businesses, small restaurants, banquet rooms used for private parties, private clubs, seating areas completely outside the restaurant, and property owned, controlled or leased by the State and Federal governments. This bill also amends the requirements for non smoking signs and increases the tine for violations from $5 to a range of $10 to $25.
