Re: Public Hearing on Bill #62- Draft #2 relating to
Post Harvest Treatment Facilities
Kona Surf Hotel, 10:00 AIvf \4ay 15, 1997
Honorable Chair and Members of the Council:
AQy name is Richard Henderson and I am President of the Hawaii Island
Economic Development Board. We have testified in favor of the referenced
measure with some amendments as discussed at the County Council meeting
and public hearing on May 7, 1997.
We believe that the Council has done an admirable job in addressing
community concerns and in ensuring appropriate expenditures of public
funds for the benefit of agricultural development in this County. We have
recommended partnership participation by the private sector, and endorse an
independent economic analysis of a consolidation, processing and
distribution center.
We have contacted the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and State Civil
Defense on applicable safety procedures, and believe that national and
statewide models are in place which will assist in appropriate project
implementation for Hawaii County.
We thank you for your continued support and for the opportunity to submit
these comments. MAHALO, COUNCIL!!
Richard Henderson
President
