Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 7,2. reports as follo~~s:
Communication No. 732, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated September 2002, nominates
Mr. Richard P. Rego of Council District 6 to the County of Hawaii Cost of Government
Commission. Mr. Rego would replace Mr. Lloyd Van de Car who resigned.
A life-long resident of Hawaii, Mr. Richard P. Rego is self-employed in the construction
industry. Mr. Rego is very active in his community as evidenced by his being a memher of the
Volcano Community Board, the Cooper Center Council, the Volcano Volunteer Fire
Department, and as a director on the Board of the Hawaii Island Contractors Association. He
will serve a term to end December, 2002.
Mr. Rego advised your Committee Members that he is not affiliated with any political party.
Pursuant to Article V, Chapter 2. Section 5-2.2. Hawaii County Charter, the mayor with the
approval of the council shall appoint a cost of government commission consisting of nine
members.
Your Committee on Finance recommends the confirmation of Mr. Richard P. Rego to the County
of Hawaii Cost of Government Commission to serve a term ending December 2002.
