Your Committee on Finance, to which was relcrred Resolution No. 1-U2. reports as iollo~~~s:
Resolution No. 241-02. transmitted by Director of I-'inance William Takaba, via Communication
No. 739, dated September 1 U, 2002, authorises the acceptance of a donati~.~n from Hawaii I~:Icctric Light
Co.. lnc.
Hawaii Electric Light Co.. Inc. has graciously donated materials for the construction of an educational
kiosk, a public bulletin board leaturing an educational display. a solar powered lighting system
consisting of solar rooting tiles, battery. charger controller. switch. and two lights for the kiosk. and a
solar powered lighting system consisting of solar panels, batteries. battery hox, charge controller.
combiner box, switches, and t~~ur lights to the County of Hawaii, Department of Parks and Recreation
for use at the bayfront restrooms. The value of this donation is estimated at $12.500.
Pursuant to Article XIII, Section 1 ~-12, I{awai'i County Charter, the Council. on behalf of the County
may accept gifts or donations of personal property.
A letter of appreciation will be sent to Mr. Warren Lee, President. HE1,CU. P.U. 13ox 1 U27. I {ilo.
Hawaii 96721-1027. acknowledging this generous donation.
Some members of~ Your Committee expressed concerns regarding the maintenance of the lights.
Mr. Pat Moore, a representative o1~ HELCU, stated they would do w-hat they could through donations
and hoped there would not be much need for maintenance.
During its discussion. Your Committee learned that the Cuunt~ of }lawai'i's $2.000 conu-ihution is an
addition to HELCO's donation.
Your Committee on h'inancc is in accord with the purpose and intent o1~ Resolution Nu. 2~1-02 and
recommends its adoption.
