RE: TESTIMONY AGAINST THE PROPOSED IRRADIATION PROCESS

Dear Honorable Council:
I understand that a process is needed for the papaya and other fruit
industries on the Big Island in order that shipment to the mainland maybe
possible. However, due to the mounting evidence that the use of such
irradiation process is dangerous, mainly due to contamination of water,
land because of leakage or spills during shipment, containment or
negligent usage, I urge the Cauncil to look to other benign methods for
fruit processing. 1 feel that this sets a dangerous precedent for the
County and in the long way may end up in disaster that we would be better
off avoiding in the first place. Our safety lies in your hands, please
consider this carefully.
