Your Committee on Parks & Environmental Management, to which was referred
Communication No. 708, and attached Bill No. 252, reports as follows:
The purpose of Bill No. 252 is to amend Chapter 15, Article 7, of the Hawaii County Code 1983
(1995 Edition), relating to the Veterans Advisory Committee by adding the Military Order of the
Purple Heart and deleting subsection (g).
Communication No. 708 is from Parks and Recreation Director Patricia G. Engelhard, dated
August 1, 2002, transmitting Bill No. 252 for the Council's review and consideration.
Ms. Engelhard states that the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Hilo Chapter #731 in June
2002, received its recognition charter to Congressionally chartered Military Order of the Purple
Heart of the United States of America, Inc. In recognition of this newly chartered veteran
organization, Ms. Engelhard requests to increase membership of the Veterans Advisory
Committee to sixteen in order to include a representative of this organization.
Your Committee on Parks and Environmental Management is in accord with the purpose and
intent of Bill No. 252, and recommends that it pass first reading.
