Dear Chairman Arakaki and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate the following individuals to the Veterans Advisory
Committee.
• Mr. Charles R. Mayes of Council District 3 is a 28-year resident of Hawaii.
Mr. Mayes has been active with the Hawaii Island Veterans Memorial
(HIVM), Inc., the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the AARP as a
Legislative Committee board member. He states that he is a member of
the Democratic Party. If confirmed, he will represent the HIVM on this
committee, replacing Mr. Robert Montague, whose term expires on
December 31, 2002. He will serve a term to end on December 31, 2007.
• Mr. Gilbert P. Sampaia of Council District 2 is a nine-year resident of
Hawaii. Mr. Sampaia is currently self-employed in the electronics repair
business. He has been active with the Big Island Retired Military
Association (BIRMA) and the HIVM, Inc. He also is an active volunteer
with Hospice of Hilo. If confirmed, he will represent BIRMA on this
committee, replacing Mr. Bob Pettit, whose term expires on December 31,
2002. He will serve a term to end on December 31, 2007.
