Reference: Meal Allowance for Nonnovernight Travel
Subsection 2-96(a) of the Hawaii County Code requires that meal allowance (including tax and
tip) for nonovernight travel, except as modified in subsection 2-98(b), shall be $4.00 for
breakfast, $5.00 for lunch, and $10.00 for dinner. This subsection has not been amended since
1981.
Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending Subsection 2-96(a) to increase meal allowance for
nonovernight travel as follows:
Breakfast: $5.00
Lunch: 8.00
Dinner: 15.00
These increases are more reflective of current meal prices on the Big Island and we ask for your
