EXPENSES (increases meal allowance for nonovernight U-avcl to $5.00 for breakfast.
$8.00 for lunch and $15.00 for dinner
From Finance Director William Takaha, dated November 6. 2002. transmitting the
above bill Subsection 2-96(a) of the Hawaii Count}~ Code requires that the meal
allowance (including tax and tip) for nonovernight travel. c~cept as modiiicd in
subsection ?-98(b), shall he $4.00 for breakfast, $5.00 for lunch. and $1 O.OU for
dinner. This subsection has not been amended since 1981. ~hhese increases are more
reflective of current meal prices on the Big Island.

Wildlife Service, is providing a $5,000 Rural Fire Assistance Grant to the Hawaii
County Fire Department for wildland ti re training and equipment purchase. This
should benefit the public by having reduced fire loss. increased liretightcr safety and
training, and the reduction ofoccurrence and intensity oi~~~~ildland fires ~~ith the
urban interface.
