HomeMy WebLinkAboutREP PWIRC 063 11/07/2002 2000-2002 REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC WORKS & INTERGOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS DATE: November 7, 2002 RE: Communication No. 790 PLACE: Councilroom TIME: 9:5 a.m. Chair and Members Hawaii County Council Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations, to which was referred Communication No. 790 reports as follows: Communication No. 790, dated September 7, 2002, from Council Chair James Y. Arakaki informing members that the Council will begin formulating its 2003 State Legislative Package. It requests that legislative proposals be submitted to the Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations for discussion. Also received and circulated at this meeting were the following communications: I . Communication No. 790.1 from Councilmember Bobby Jean Leithead-Todd dated October 25, 2002 submitting four projects for inclusion in the legislative package. 2. Communication 790.2 dated October 28 from Mayor Harry Kim informing the Council that the 2003 Legislative Package will be limited to five or six items and further requesting that Council priorities are submitted to Executive Assistant Andy Levin for consideration by November 8, 2002. 3. Communication 790.3 dated November 7, 2002 from Councilmember Leningrad Elarionoff submitting one project for inclusion in the legislative package. Councilmember Julie Jacobsen voted "no" on Councilmember Leithead-Todd~s proposals and voted "kanalua times two" on Councilmember Leningrad Elarionoff's sidewalk project. Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations recommends the approval and inclusion of the following items in the County of Hawaii's 2003 Legislative Package: Upper Waiakea diversion project for the Waiakea Stream (HB 2597); Upper Kaumana diversion project for the Waipahoehoe and Kaluiiki Streams (HB 2597); Immunity from natural hazards (falling rocks, etc.); Increase funding for more personnel in the hospital emergency rooms; Paniolo Drive Sidewalk Improvements, Phase III, $250,000.00: Puna Makai Alternate Route Study -Council District 5, $250,000.00; Hawaiian Ocean View Exploratory Well Funding. ctd AYES NOES A&E EX Respectfully submitted.
