SUBJECT: Hilo County Bill #62; Post-Harvest'IT~eatment
~'acllity
Dear Gareth:
Please Join me ffi supporting Mayor Steven Yamashiro's request for a
Post-Harvest Treatment Facility.
An irradiation facility would benefit the Big Island by an Increase in Jobs,
economic growth due to our produce and meats being shipped out of
state and out of country, and eru7ch the transportation by preventing
spoilage.
Reducing food spoilage would be a boon to Hawaii's agriculture sector.
Transportation delays would not result in a farmer losing his entire
shipment. Radiation sterilized, enzyme inactivated meats can be
transported at ambient temperatures and stored inexpensively without
refrigeration. Beef from Hawaii can make an economic comebackt
Foods are not made radioactive by irradiation.
Mayor Yamashiro wlll be helping all of Hawaii ...and all of us in the
transportation sector. Please pass this along to the membership,
Sincerely,
L e Thkeuchi
